GROF® BREATHWORK: THE HEALING INTELLIGENCE OF EXPANDED STATES OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Panel Discussion with Grof Breathwork Practitioners, Patty Nagle and Andrew Chiaraluce,

Grof® Breathwork is a powerful experiential approach developed by psychiatrist Stanislav Grof and Christina Grof that invites access to expanded states of consciousness through accelerated breathing, evocative music, focused bodywork/energy release work (when appropriate), and a safe, supportive setting. This two-hour lecture offers an introduction to the history, theory, and practice of Grof® Breathwork, exploring how non-ordinary states of consciousness can facilitate profound psychological, emotional, somatic, and spiritual healing. The lecture will also explore why expanded states often allow unresolved material to emerge with remarkable intelligence and precision. Rather than being viewed as pathology, difficult emotions, bodily sensations, symbolic imagery, and archetypal experiences are understood as meaningful expressions of the psyche’s natural movement toward integration.

Andy Chiaraluce, MA, LPCC, is a psychotherapist in private practice in Taos, New Mexico. With his master’s degree in counseling, Andy specialized in ecopsychology/ecotherapy at Prescott College. He is currently training as an apprentice facilitator in the Grof® Breathwork lineage developed by Stan and Christina Grof through the Grof® Legacy Training USA. Andy has a passion for exploring the relationship between Gaia, Cosmos, and the human through the lenses of transpersonal psychology, ecopsychology, and deep ecology. 

Patty Nagle is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and certified Grof® Breathwork facilitator who supports individuals on journeys of healing, self-discovery, and transformation. She specializes in helping people prepare for and integrate expanded states of consciousness, including psychedelic experiences and breathwork, drawing on a deep trust in the psyche’s innate capacity to heal when supported with presence, compassion, and care.  Kate Latimer, MA, LPCC, is the Director of the New Earth Institute and Consciousness in Action MA faculty at Southwestern College. In addition to operating from a mindfulness-based, somatic, trauma-informed, culturally sustaining lens, Kate brings curiosity, empathy, authenticity and humor to her work as a teacher and counselor. She believes in the power of personal responsibility and individual healing but also recognizes the need for social justice and systemic change in our communities in order to support overall well-being in the larger collective.

HISTORY AND LEGACY OF COUNSELOR EDUCATION AT SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE:
A CONVERSATION WITH KATHERINE NINOS

Southwestern College applied for initial “incorporation” as an educational institution 50 years ago, in 1976. Since its doors opened to receive its first cohort of students three years later, Southwestern has served as a center for consciousness, transformation, and healing in New Mexico. As part of our 50th Anniversary celebration, the New Earth Institute invites you to join New Institute Director, Kate Latimer, MA, LPCC, for a conversation with Katherine Ninos, who has been with the college since its inception. Kate and Katherine will discuss the history of the college, including the first transmission of the mission and vision as a light action, and the evolution of Southwestern’s unique “Consciousness-based” curriculum. Katherine will also share how pioneers in the field of energy work, consciousness, anthroposophy, theosophy, metaphysical teachings, and the new thought movement contributed to the creation of Southwestern College, and the development of its unique counseling and art therapy degrees.

Katherine Ninos, MA, LPCC, is the Executive Vice President and Director of MA in Consciousness in Action. She is an experienced clinician, ceremonialist, and consciousness teacher.
