Katrina Plato, ATR, Ed.D., Ph.D., has been practicing as an art therapist, expressive arts consultant, and educator for 36 years. She has worked primarily with severely troubled youth, women survivors of trauma, and the homeless. Katrina has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in expressive arts therapy and art therapy after earning a doctorate in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Expressive Arts from Appalachian State University, NC and a Ph.D. in Expressive Arts from the European Graduate School in Switzerland. She presently teaches graduate courses online and in person for WHEAT (Winnipeg Holistic Expressive Arts Therapy) Institute. While living in downtown Phoenix, Arizona Katrina offers consulting to the non-profit Skye鈥檚 the Limit Foundation which serves families and youth through trauma informed care. She also facilitates group art therapy sessions for Charlie Health, Inc., in a fast growing online Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) serving youth and adults in 40 states within the United States.
Katrina has a growing consulting business helping people navigate life through an intermodal and highly intuitive approach to healing combining expressive arts, numerology, and astrology. She is presently taking a course from Pacifica Graduate Institute, Black Moon Lilith: The Astrological Portal of Refusal and Liminal Intelligence from the esteemed archetypal astrologer, Dr. Laurence Hillman, and his colleague Dr. Vanja Bokun Popovi膰. Katrina was the Regional Committee Co-Chair for the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA) for eight years, receiving the prestigious Shining Star award for her efforts in expanding the international expressive arts community. She is now working as co-chair for the IEATA conference in Kenya, June 2027.
She grounds and gathers inspiration from nature, intuitive writing, Neurographic art, and touch through clay and the body.
Katrina is working on a book about an intuitive writing and drawing practice of nine years with an expressive arts colleague to be published in 2027. She wrote the book, Differently Enabled Adventures (2020) about her travels with a friend who is a wheelchair user.
